The Waterline
Solo Presentation at Art Joburg with edition~verso and POOL
2022
Lined with recycled sandpaper and compressed reconstituted particle foam, this installation at the art fair was a sensorial experience foregrounding geologic processes as parallel to printmaking, and water as a changeable and circulating resource.
It included Dam Works, a series of water-based monotypes which use the material qualities of water, pigment and surface to consider human engineered dam structures. In working through relationships between wet and dry, the making of structural forms through ‘holding’ the water in place, and shaped erasures, I thought through the nature of dam structures themselves, their origins as colonial structures in South Africa and their future as climates change.
